I hope everyone has rested up this summer because we are fixing to get busy. In June, Keith Rice and Cathy Dobson represented us at Kiwanis International Convention in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. In July, Susan Marrs, Mary Rhoads, John Rhoads, and Judge Woody Gossom represented us at TO Convention in Plano, Texas. Also our own Lieutetant Governor, Keith Rice was at TO. KI has updated bylaws and Susan has agreed to update our bylaws also. Carl Thomas and five students from Legacy Key Club helped spread mulch in our toddler’s playground. A big “Thank You” to all that participated in University Kiwanis WF this summer. Our board approved three new memberships (upon background check clearance). Dennis Probst brought in Melody Salas, District Executive of Northwest Texas Council of Scouting America. She is also SAFB Spouse Leader. She has many talents and ideas to bring to our club. I, with Woody’s help, brought in Matthew and Alaina Clairday. Matt and Alaina have been cooking pancakes for homeless on Sunday mornings. They have already cooked pancakes for us two years in a row. Now they are one of us! In August it was an honor to induct Carl Thomas into our club. Carl is a Kiwanis success story. He was in Key Club in high school, Circle K Club in college, and is now a Kiwanis Faculty Advisor at Legacy High School. It is so encouraging to see a child benefit from Kiwanis and then continue the work in adulthood. Hopefully he will supply us with ideas and suggestions to help our club aid the current generation of children who are dealing with an entirely different world than what we grew up with. And, last, but not least, Hoegger Communications has become our first Corporate Membership. Jackie Hoegger and her team are a much needed addition to our club. I have admired her work from afar for years when she put Harvest Drug on the map in the 90’s? Now she has a striving corporation with brilliant young minds helping put North Texas on the map. Welcome aboard everyone! We gave: $1,300 to Big Brothers and Sisters for a copier; $300 to Engage (foster children); $1,100 to Police Drug Program; $1,000 to Patsy’s House; $2,000 to FFA for travel to state competition; $1,000 to ARC for Buddy Walk. I haven’t given up on Bicycle Rodeo. Ashley Fisk, City of Wichita Falls Bike Friendly Coordinator, spoke to our club and is interested in working with us to make this happen. Have you all heard of Drone Soccer? Evidently it’s a part of the new E Sports in high schools. We have John Rhodes, Jeremy Davis, and Greg Randolph interested in this. Hopefully, we can host a contest at Kiwanis Park! We have been invited to join Rotary Club Southwest of Wichita Falls September 6, 2025 to partner in a fundraiser “Wetter’N Hell Duck Derby” on Saturday, September 6, 2025. I think it’s a great idea. I know that it’s sort of late in the game to be joining but what a fun idea partnering with others who volunteer. I’ve seen some of their members at our Pancake Festival. Let’s jump on the wagon and sell some ducks! Since we are a small but MIGHTY club we came up with: MMM – Media, Membership, Marketing. Jeremy Davis and Greg Randolph have stepped up to run Marketing. Jeremy Davis also stepped up to run Membership. We need someone to step up to run Media. Hopefully, these committees can meet together to conserve each members time so they won’t need to attend as many committee meetings. I know you can all work together to make this happen. Suggestions are appreciated. Our token Okie, Jonathan Morgan has made a professional jump to work in Lawton, OK. He will remain a member of our club until further notice. He hopes to join us via OWL. He will eventually join Lawton’s Kiwanis Club. We will miss you Jonathan and have enjoyed your time with us. I am grateful for the mild summer we have had, because we need to put on our running shoes to help our local children who are going back to school. I hope to see you at: HHH, Saturday August 23, 2025 Wetter’N Hell Duck Derby, September 6, 2025.
